Grand Design Tire Options

A friend has a GD 388. They're already considering a trade to a new 395. He's been looking online at Tennessee RV. I notice in their specs that all their Momentums seem to have G614 tires.

Does anyone know if this is a new GD standard, an option, or just something Tennessee RV does?
  • Probably standard to hold up to the really heavy trailer load. Better would be 17.5 inch, but that would add too much safety margain.
  • The GD website still shows Westlakes in their specs. This dealer may be ordering their rigs with Goodyears.
  • A buddy at the dunes picked up a new Momentum a couple of weeks ago.
Came with the Samson G rated tires.
I'm impressed manufactures are doing the good tires.
Maybe the really are listening to the public.
  • We just brought home a Momentum 397th. They come with Westlake tires but the G614 are an $3000 option. They give you no credit for those if you choose the option. I got a better deal from my Big O for the G614 including the extended warranty. Also have the new Westlake tires for sale or spares. Need to change my sig some day!
  • $3000? For 7 tires? Hard to believe - I guess they deliver the RV with both the Westlakes and the Goodyears!

I'd buy your Westlakes in a heartbeat if you were closer. I'm always looking craigslist for RV take-offs to put on my landscape trailers. I have a set of Westlakes on one right now and they've been great.
  • The Westlakes are a step above the rest but they have reports of them exploding too. Not going to take a chance and tear up the sides of our new camper. 7 for $3000 was a little steep but they are the top of the line commercial grade tire.If they would sell them for the price difference of the Westlakes and the G614 it would be a better deal.
  • My G614s were $325/tire as an option with my dealership. They kept the original tires which covered the price of installation.

Not an outstanding deal but they were four hours away and I didn't feel like going through the added hassle of doing it later on.
