A Dollar Tree on sale flat blade screw driver will still pop them locked compartments open faster than you can do it with the key regardless of the type of lock used.
You could put a $50 lock on them but they are still a $2 door/frame.
Insurance covering the 'contents' is needed.

The flat blade "key" - yes.
The $2 door/frame. Yes - BUT... try to replace one for $2!..:R
(Why you don't lock them).
Solution (other than insurance):
1. Non-locking thumb turn latches.
2. Don't keep anything of "real value" in compts.
(Never had anyone steal my assorted "stuff", sewer hose etc.).
