Ground Fault Interrupt Circuit Breakers

I know that I am not the only one who has experienced this problem. My camper will not accept a 30 amp GFIC breaker. It trips instantly. I have no problem with a standard 30 amp or 50 amp breaker. It trips with all internal breakers off. Is there a work around for this problem?

  • Also, turn off the breaker to your water heater and try it again. Sometimes the element will short across when it burns out. In fact, start by turning all the breakers off and flipping one at a time till it trips the house GFCI.
  • The large filter capacitors in the output stage of the AC-DC converter can develop quite a bit of leakage current as they age.

My guess is if you disconnect the converter on the AC side and test again you will not trip the GFCI.
  • Also the GFCI's in your rig can create a ground-fault when they are plugged to another GCFI. Usually this is because there is a hidden fault in one of the GCFIs
  • Your ground and your neutral must be completely separate, the neutral cannot be grounded at any point in your rv. Believe that to be your problem, good luck! Master Electrician
