Had our first major tire issue

Based on all of the threads I have read here, I had already come to the conclusion that we would replace our FW tires prior to our trip to Colorado in September even though our FW is only a year old. Unfortunately, we will need to replace sooner as after our arrival home from our trip this weekend we noticed one tire was low. We had checked all tires before the trip and all tires before coming home...all had adequate pressure. We to thought perhaps we ran over something along the way so we took the tire off to get repaired but found out it was not repairable. The belt separated and the tire has a bubble. I am just sitting here being very thankful that we did not have a blowout. That would have been a good way to ruin a trip. Now, time for the real decision...what to buy? I believe I will be looking back through all the tire threads (well maybe not ALL of them) and doing some tire research. I sure wish I would have gotten a few more months in first. Oh well...price we pay for our passions in life.

  • I went from ST's to LT's years ago and will never go back. I recently put some BFG Commercial T/A's on and have been really happy with them.
  • The tires that came on FW are Tomax power king ST235/80R16. Load range E.
  • Thanks and I agree, it was great that it didn't blow! Much further and it probably would have. LT is definitely the direction we were already leaning just from the knowledge I have gained here.
  • My last 5th wheel I put on regular Michelin LTX and had no issues for the two years I had that trailer. When I got my Voltage, and it was brand new, I immediately put on Michelin XPS Ribs. I'm not a believer in any ST trailer tire.
  • Great news that this was found before the tire blew out on the road...

Do yourself a favor now.. Go with a sturdy LT tire and be done with these ST tires for your trailer.
