Had to replace the Coleman AC?

Camping a week ago and the 2nd day I came back to the 5th and it's 88 deg inside. I had to replace the unit the next day with a 15K Coleman AC. My question is I have to register the AC for warranty and they want to sell me a third year for $90. This unit lasted me 12 years but the service guy said he has some that 10 years and some that last 2. I usually don't purchase extended warranties on products and thought these AC last longer then 2 years but wanted your advise. Has anyone had a Coleman go out after just a short time in use?
Thanks G

  • Warranties are worth the paper they are written on. Consumer Reports swears at them all the time. Listen to Ralph, I'm against junk mail and we throw out about 50 lb a week including Camping World Insurance which starts out "Dear KI4BDS" or Dear Karl Cicchinelli, no such person.

You should not have a problem with a Coleman Mach......

Don't be so sure,COLEMAN replaced two for me in less than 10 months.
  • These are my thoughts as well. I'm not one to throw money around and have always thought that extended warrantys are huge money makers for these company's. Thanks for the help.
  • You should not have a problem with a Coleman Mach........Now a Dometic may be a different story. If it does not have an issue in the first two years its highly unlikely to have one in the 3rd unless its something cheap to repair, like a capacitor which is a $15 part.

FYI that registration is a load of BS. You still get the warranty for 2 years without sending in that card or registering it online, as long as you have proof of purchase. When you register your info is then sold to Telemarketers etc. Its a good way to increase the calls, emails, and junk mail you receive exponentially.

Nowhere in the AIRXCEL warranty is registering a requirement.

I would spend the $90 on boxes of beer.
  • If your going to throw away money... Throw some my way !! With the extended warranty, that's what your doing... the rest of the camper will expire before the new A/C will. Just remember to clean the filter on a yearly, or semi yearly basis, that's good insurance. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!
  • Extended warranties = simple bet, it's gonna die. I agree w/ collihauler. I don't get 'em either.
  • As with any insurance their betting it won't go out and your betting it will.

When asked about extended warranties I decline. They usually respond what if it brakes down? I usually respond then I'll know not to buy their products again.
  • No way. The chances of it going bad the third year is just about zero.
