- RomperStomperExplorerNice way2nutz, love the setup!
- way2nutzExplorerI too use a front goal post to support my Yakima cross bar and saddles. I didnt use the goal posts offered by Yakima or Thule as the seemed extremely light weight, so I welded up my own.
As you can see in the pic, I also use a Yakima rack for our bikes. The rear wheels sit on top of a Highway box. A surprising plus related to the box, is all I have to do is unclip the rear wheels on the bikes, and the box opens just fine with the tires rolling as the lid opens. - RomperStomperExplorerLove hearing everyone's ideas. HappyKayakers has the perfect idea. I already have a front mount hitch that I installed when I had a popup truck camper. Now all I need is a rack. I used to just toss the canoe on the top of the TC. I think the 5ver is a bit on the high side for that. Thanks!
- lizzieExplorerWe have Yakima racks on the top of the truck. We haul 13' solo canoes, so they are ok if pulled a little forward. We also have an inflatable tandem canoe that we take in the truck bed. Don't go anywhere without the canoes! lizzie
- billmacExplorerI have a 12 ft Hobie Kayak. I transport it on the floor of the rv. It is the last item packed and the first item unpacked.
The hard part was wrestling the yak thru the rv door. I made a cart to transport the yak on its side and the cart stays on during transport. Now I can load and unload it by myself. - Tin_PusherExplorer IIHow "creative" you looking for? Trailer? On top of the FW? Put it on the TV:)
- ken_whiteExplorerI use a Yakima Sportsman 300 for the bed and Dry Dock Trailer Hitch for the front when taking my Old Town Penobscot 17'er.
I also have a 12' inflatable with outboard when I want to fish/explore bigger water. - NorskemanExplorerDepending upon the length - top of the truck - length may require some type of support on the front of the truck.
I use a Yakima system on the roof of the truck to carry 2 or 3 kayaks - 12 footers. I could have more overhang on the front because they get tied off in the center and the back. - HappyKayakersExplorer IIIFront receiver hitch with a Yakima dry dock and standard roof rack bar over the cab.
- TucsonJimExplorer III gave up and sold mine. Then I bought inflatables for fishing on the lakes.
