hauling motor cycle

I have forest river sabre with a rack on the back that has a 450 weght cap. Bike weighes 550. I was thinking about adding an ext. on to it (12 to 16 inches) and adding a dolly wheel. Think it will work???
Does anyone have another Idea ??

  • Just have a receiver hitch installed in place of the rack and get a small trailer for your motorcycle. I am about to do the same thing to my Sabre, I already have a motorcycle trailer.
  • I pulled a Smart Trailer carrying two motorcycles, well a maxi-scooter and a motorcycle, behind our old Big Sky for several years. I finally got tired of the extra hassle and bought a toyhauler. Much less work and much less stress.
  • That would be quite a job IMO. If you're planning on using it to support part of the weight, it would have to also be able to move up and down with the rear of the unit. And that could be a pretty large amount of movement considering some dips in the road and driveways and such.

My opinion is you have three choices:

    1. Get a smaller/lighter bike.

    2. Get a toyhauler.

    3. Get something like a Smart Trailer or a Swivelwheel trailer.

The add-on trailers are the cheapest solution, but have their own issues:

Added length, added tail swing, not legal in all states, needs a strong/well built receiver hitch.

You could also just pull a small trailer for the bike, but then you run into the issues of backing up. Not a fun thing.

    Howdy!

Your going to get a lot of bounce at the rear of you RV. I use a "Idaho Tote" you my want to look into to it.
