Headboard in slideout in 5th wheel

HI all, been looking at new 5th wheel toyhaulers and some have the headboard in the slide out, and some the slide is the closet. I have seen people in the past complain about the headboard in the slideout, but I never figured out why. Does anyone have any comments around that? Colder/hotter in the slide? What am i missing? Thanks for your insight...

  • The only drawback I seem to find is that in a Toy hauler the bedrooms seem a bit smaller than say a regular 5th wheel and therefore getting around the bed that is in the slide is a little tight. Mt parents Alpenlite has a bed in the slide and has lots of room around it. My Fuzion is very tight squeeze. I have seen a lot of haulers going to a north/south bed and the wardrobe in the slide and that is very easy to walk around. Would prefer to go that way with my next hauler.
  • Thanks for the insight everyone. Does not look like a big deal either way. I do like the 2 windows on both side of the bed.
  • Our headboard is a wall, we dont have a slide, and our heads freeze in winter.
  • Most slide outs have very limited insulation. As a result with the headboard nestled in the slide out it can be downright chilly if you're camping in cold weather. The plus is that most have small portal windows so you can get some fresh air too.
  • Hmmm, no problem with our headboard in the slide. I just have to remember to close the blind or the moon keeps me awake!
  • Our headboard is also in the slide out. My only complaint is the noise during a rainstorm, but we like the cross ventilation and I see no difference in temperature.
  • I like the headboard in the slide-out since it has 2 small windows providing a cross breeze and a larger window at the foot of the bed!
  • All our toy haulers have had headboards in the nose. But we had a headboard in a slideout one time on a travel trailer. The only real dislike I had was the movement. Since you're "hanging out" some, every little movement from the camper (wind, people walking inside, etc.) was exaggerated worse than it was.

Not a deal breaker though if we found a camper we liked and that was the only flaw.
