I bet most of the outgassing is from the carpet, special order one without carpet then keep the vents open with exhaust fans on for a few weeks.

Our old Cameo had the issue and our Certified Green Mobile Suites has it also and I have that dumb azz sticker, not sure what's dumb about it though.

I have chemical sensitivities and can't even walk into some RVs without getting burning eyes and a migraine.
We bought a Northwood Arctic Fox. It had a little bit of a new smell when we got it, but not a strong eye burning formaldehyde smell.

wow....never heard of that before. You can smell it so it makes sense that some might be sensitive to it.

Many people are "allergic" to the materials used in the manufacture of RVs -AND- autos and trucks - even when they are EPA and CARB compliant.

Formaldehyde is one.

OP - Best solution is look for a clean unit a couple of years old.


"Orion": A friend has to do same when purchasing "new" cars - new is NG. It has nothing to do with being "environmentally conscious".

Has to be about 2 years old for "emissions" used in upholstery to be completely gone/dissipated .

It is what it is.

A mid-70's band from Tucson, called the Dusty Chaps, had a song called "Too Many Pretty Girls (To Love Just One)". Lonesome George Thorogood has one called "I Really Like Girls". Hell, works for me! :-)

We get older, the drives get a little weaker, but they don't fundamentally change. There is a moral there somewhere, I just don't know what it is.

I agree with those suggesting a pre-owned FW. Other option is to look around for new, old-stock that's been sitting on a lot for a year (or more). Might still have some out-gassing, but not for nearly as long, or as bad. When the weather's nice, most dealers do like to open things up, if only to keep them a bit cooler.

Formaldehyde is use in the carpeting and other amenities. It should be avoided at all costs and IS toxic especially to pets. Not all manufacturers use it and a statement from the manufacturer should be made available to the buyer. Styrene is used in fiber glass and is a and is not proven to be a carcinogen in its liquid form, but I don't know of any ill effects from the gas it gives off. Again a reputable manufacturer should provide a list of gasses emitted in the first year. After several months most gasses are depleted.
