Heartland builds entry to mid level trailers. The difference between a Big Horn and Landmark is the Landmark is a loaded up Big Horn. In other words more standard options. That is what I found when I was looking. I bought a Redwood which is a notch above the Landmark. The Redwood construction is more solid because it used marine grade plywood rather than particle board and has 16 inch centers on the rafters rather than 24 inches and 3/8 ply on the roof rather than 1/8 lauan. The Redwood suspension is more robust than the Lippert. The Redwood costs slightly more than the Landmark, but the small price difference is worth it.
The Heartland forum is nice and the owners are nice, but the same can be said for all of the other owner groups. After all they all want to support their purchase decision and do everything they can to keep the resale price.

Both Redwood and Heartland are owned by Thor so there service and warranty will be very similar.

BTW your "Falcon" frame IS all Lippert...as for "keeping the resale price"...no one in their right mind who had a problem would say good things about a "bad" unit just to keep up resale OR turn around a buy another unit by the same manufacturer.

We had a problem unit...a 2007 Holiday Rambler...never spoke well of it and certainly did not buy another one...the heck with worrying about resale.
  • Why is it when anyone asks about Heartland products, everyone who NEVER owned one tells them to look elsewhere...usually their brand. Guess us Heartland owners, who really know what they are like, should start putting our 2 cents in on CC, Redwood, etc. threads...geez!! Give it a break!!
  • MPI don't put all the blame on Heartland,I would bet the dealer is weak,as so often is the case with any line.Had a friend who was fulltiming in a Cedar Creek and had a huge frame problem cracking right up the wall on both sides 4' from the back, right through the fiber glass. It happens.
  • I don't want to start another who's fiver is better post but my neighbour bought a 2012 bighorn new and it spent most of last summer at the dealership (first mistake) and he told me heartland's after-the-sale customer service just plain sucks then another fellow across the street from me at our resort had problems with his new bighorn as well. I would recommend you take a good long look at Cedar Creek, aside from those P.O.S. Drainmaster electic dump valves (that Cedar Creek has replaced three times so far)we've had very few problems and their customer service is the best in the industry! Last summer the clear-coat started flaking off the full body paint job, I called and was immediately referred to the company that does their full body paint and was told without any hesitation to bring the trailer to them and they will re-finish it at their expense and at out timetable, and that's on a 6 year old fiver!!! As of today I don't know anyone who owns a cedar Creek fiver who won't buy another!

Be sure to get all your facts right...Heartland uses 3/8" plywood on the roof not 1/8" The Redwood suspension is Lippert but with a fancy name to make it sound better. Heartland quit using Lippert junk for their suspension a couple years ago and now use Dexter components. Nearly every component on the Redwood trailer is made by Lippert. The Redwood line is sold and built by the Crossroads brand...Take a look @ what's been going on lately with Crossroads and their dissatisfied owners group. Heartland has the best Factory Customer Service of any brand..Heartland offers a factory warranty that will cover it for full-time use. I've been to the factory, seen them built and have been a satisfied Heartland owner for 4 years. Heartland builds the Landmark, Big Horn and Big Country on the same assembly line using similar construction methods and components. All of them are rated for and warrantied for full-time use. Any one of them would be a great choice!

  • OK...here's the truth. We fulltimed in a Bighorn for almost six years. Put over 80K miles on it. Spent time in temps from around zero to over 100 degrees with no issues. We did have dual pane windows and two a/c's...this was a 2008 model.

Loved it so much we now have a 2013 Landmark (different floorplan)...have been in it fulltime for over a year. It also has dual pane windows, added yetti package (which will get a work out tonight...temps in TN are suppose to drop to just below zero)

Have never had a frame issue on either...running gear was a bit of a problem, so we had Mor Ryde IS added to the Landmark. However, they now offer 17.5 tires and rims and disc brakes along with 8K axles...which became available several months after we ordered. Also you can now get a residential fridge, which I would have ordered if it had been available.

Others will try to tell you these are not fulltime units...our ACTUAL experience proves the opposite...the Landmark also has a 2+5 warranty and is warranted for fulltime use, as is the Bighorn.
  • Go to the Heartland forum and read all you can there. I own a 06 Landmark Mt. Rushmore, we are very pleased with.
