Heavy Black Tank Smell

I fought this problem several years ago. Finally found a pyramid in the black tank and the trailer was only a few weeks old. Dealer put u digest it in the tank with plenty of water. pyramid soon was eaten up. I've used ever since and problem is gone. One thing I did learn, do not let the additive freeze. It will to work after that. And yes put in plenty of water.

Heard good reports about Tank Tech RX. Bought a bottle and have it in the tank now. DW has a nose more sensitive than a bloodhound and hasn't mentioned it since I added it.

As a plus it has instructions on using it to clean the sensors.

First of all, when do you dump the black tank? Maybe I missed it, but I did not see where you were dumping the black tank! NEVER, leave the valves open on RV holding tanks. If it were me I would dump them after every weekend, no need leaving all the "stuff" in there until the tank is full. The comments on adding at least 5 gallons of water after dumping is spot on, these things are designed to have water in them, don't skimp! Also, no bleach, is because the bleach will kill all the bacteria! Bacteria feed on the "stuff" and break it down so it can be washed away. It does that in the holding tank as well as the septic systems. Rid-X promotes the growth of the bacteria. I think they call it "the circle of life", or something like that!

never had an odor with us. I have changed methods over time. I put about a gallon of water in, with maybe an ounce of chemical. after a day i add the rest of the chemical. we always dump right after a drive so everything is still in motion. flush with enough water to rid the tank of any left over debris. You also may need to add to the dosage. most bottle say good for about a week, or less in hot weather. so add some to it. Try a few different things until you got it. every situation is different. We're with BrokenElbow. We've started using the Geo Method when we couldn't get rid of tank smell in our first fifth wheel and have used it ever since. We also found it useful in cleaning tank sensors that are gunked up and not working.

Google the Geo Method. I have been using this method since I started Rving and have never had any problems or smells.

Worked as a sanitation engineer for a while. Rid X is a waste of money. I used to tell every use plain bread yeast. It probably didn't do any good either but make people feel good that they had done something.

Depends how big your tank is for adding water...
I put 5 gallons in a 30 gallon tank. Would rather dump more often than deal with a mess.
I would think that any regular septic treatment is as good or better than "RV" stuff. Just a label that let's them charge more.
