16.2 MPG with a gas engine? Must have been down hill all the way. The OP must be a Ford salesman and thinks we are all idiots.

No not all.. Loaded up this weekend a dissappointing 11.2 mpgs was achieved
Figure 10 mpg for mileage calcs on a trip, unless your hand calcs show something different CONSISTENTLY. Don't believe the liar on your dash, always hand-calc your mileage. If you have a GPS, make sure you do a speed/distance correction to be sure your truck's speedo and odo are either correct, or you find out how much you're off. Me, with taller tires, I'm 4% under on speed and miles. I corrected my Scan Gauge to show correct speed so use that for reference when I don't have a GPS with me. When I calc fuel, I take my miles and multiply by 1.04. Makes a difference, for sure! Interesting thing you'll see from hundreds of posts here, is that the vast majority of people towing, from small pop-ups to 40+' FWs with even class 8's, seem to get +/- 11 mpg towing on level ground with no wind (at least if they're honest about their mpg :-) ) Again, I figure 10 mpg, though if I know I'm going to be facing grades or wind on a particular stretch, I'll modify my fuel pattern. Given that the West is =big=, I do always carry a 7 gal fuel can with me...just in case. :-) As others have said, speed makes a big difference. 65 to 60 mph gains me about 1-1.5 mpg.
