I am sure someone will post a crazy long explanation but in my experience the 5th is easier and more forgiving to tow.
Travel trailers have a lot more leverage over the tow vehicle because the point they connect to the vehicle is a few feet behind the rear axle. 5th wheels connect directly above the rear axle.
In Wind or very curvy roads or higher speeds the 5th wheel tends to behave a lot better.
With my previous travel trailer as 18 wheelers would pass me I would have to make 2-3 steering corrections. With my 5th wheel I don't typically have to make any. In my experience it is much more relaxing and less stressful towing the 5th wheel even though it is much larger.
That is what we are looking for, "more relaxing and less stressful."Even with a top notch equalizer and hitch, I still notice that my husband has to make steering corrections when a big rig passes. I don't recall this happening with our previous 5th wheel.
Thanks for your help.
