Don't forget that you have a break-in period before towing your trailer. If you look in the owner manual it will identify that you should vary your speed for 500 miles not exceeding 55 mph. That is what my 2008 owner manual specified. Just a reminder and my 2 cents.
I always disregarded the break in, but I did put a 30' TT on the back of a brand new pickup and tore out the pinion bearing and boiled all the pumpkin oil out of it before I got out of state. They said the pinion bearing hadn't seated in yet and it got hot because of the weight. Maybe it was because it was new, maybe it was because it was a Chevy :W, but there is some value in honering the break-in.
PS - for all those sky is falling folks, yes GM did cover it under warranty even though I didn't follow the rules in the Manual.
