Need Help Deciding

I'm in a similar situation, but replace horses with UTV's & snowmobiles. As a stop gap till I find the perfect truck camper. I've used the Kodiak truck tent last summer and will probably use it again this coming summer. It is a bit tedious to setup but once up with a inflatable mattress it does the trick. Weathered a few severe thunder storms in it and stayed dry.

My ideal setup would be the Capri cowboy or Rayzr FB/FK. But they still push the weight limits. I'll have to investegate some of the other options you've found. And see if they could work for me.

There are two sizes for a full size truck and two sizes for a mid sized truck. They are universal so that if you change trucks you can keep the camper and move it onto your new truck. It bolts into the bed, the same way I think as a fifth wheel hitch receiver. It is very light to lift off and can be stored on the ground - does not need to be elevated. Seems very practical. The chart shows four models. How do you tell which one fits your Tundra?

Thank you hedgehopper! I visited the Junping Jack website and didn't see the model you described but I sent them an email. There is a dealer about 3 hours away from me - so not that far.

Yesterday DW and I attended the Denver Sportsmen's Expo. We looked for tents that would mount on your Tundra and found several. The two that set up the fastest and were the most solid were Jumping Jack and Odin Designs. The websites are jumpingjacktrailers.com and odindesigns.com.

At the show, Jumping Jack had several models on trailers. But we were told that they have a model that will mount on the bed of your Tundra. We were impressed by how quickly the tent goes up and down and how roomy it is. The Jumping Jack website shows a demo of their model that mounts on a trailer.

At the show, Odin had one of their Roof Top Tents mounted on a cap on a Tundra. The ladder acted as a support and the whole arrangement was quite solid. It is available with a vestibule surrounding the ladder where you could probably set up a kitchen. The website has a demo.

Although either of these tents would probably work well for you, our favorite was the Jumping Jack because it was roomier, quicker to set up, and did not require a ladder. However, it also cost more.

It is quite stable. I used it on the truck in the sig, so the suspension was pretty stiff. But there are tabs for support poles. Mine did not have those when I bought it so I improvised by using adjustable painters poles and it stabilized up right ice.

The one that folds over to the side looks tippy...

True, Wildernest (WN) is no longer made, but there are used ones to be had. I prefer the WN design over the Flip-Pac (FP) because it folds to the side creating a nice covered seating area; the FP folds toward the front over the truck cab and one cannot really use the space under it.

I really liked my Wildernest.
