Hi guys, question about buying a toy hauler

I've been wanting a toy box forever, just could never afford one
I sold my motorcycle and now I can kind of buy one
I found one that suits my needs. It needed to be able to fit my dune buggy, have a front bedroom for the gf and be able to be towed by my current truck, a 2014 Ram 1500 4x4 Hemi
Pretty tough criteria
So I found a 2007 Weekend Warrior Superlite FS2500 for a price I could live with
Then I started researching it a bit and wound up here in a thread about the class action suit and ensuing bankruptcy of the manufacturer. The toy hauler looks like it falls into the model and year that a lot of members had frame problems with here
This particular one is eight years old, well used and doesn't appear to have any of the symptoms of the frame self destruction.
I asked the dealer about it and he assured me the frame has been inspected and everything is all good.
Does that mean it will probably survive?
I really like it and it's tough to find one that meets all my criteria, especially at a price I can afford
What do you think?
Thanks!

  • Well that's scary
How do you know if you have damage like that?
I went around the whole trailer, opened every cabinet, pushed on every wall. Spent over an hour
The trailer has some wear and tear but everything works
    I guess it's a **** shoot
  • Thanks guys, I looked at truck's owners handbook, I can tow 10,200 lbs and max payload is 1432 lbs

I think the trailer is way under that, well it's advertised as such
It's really the only one with a front bed that fits my offroad car and still be able to tow with my truck

This one is about $6,000 less than identical trailers online
If it doesn't work out I'll sell it
  • I spent about 2 years looking for the right Toy Hauler. I looked at WW. After checking out online, I passed. Remember, you may want to sell in the future, and this issue may haunt you. Also look at the ratings for your truck towing. I purchased a 2010 Stealth and really happy with it. The tri axle tracks nice-good luck
  • I would hire an independent, certified RV tech to inspect the trailer. It will money well spent. Not only can the tech tell you what is wrong, he can give you estimates on repair costs.
  • Frame inspection? I doubt that. I have been to too many used RV dealers and they don't even clean their trailers, let alone inspect them, prior to displaying them for sale. Those sales people will tell you what you want to hear.
  • Welcome I'd say if your really concerned about the frame issue move on. And I'd would agree that's too much trailer for that truck I own a 2007 Dodge 1500 with the 5.7 hemi and tow a 19 ft attitude dry weight 5,700 loaded gear, tools, dishes, first aide, chairs, shampoo, blankets, tables, toaster, coffee pot, sleeping bags, movies, radio, small air compressor,Ax, bottle water and full water tanks it weighs out at 7,200

Just don't belive the MAX TOW guide because when you loaded towing up a grade that's not true your engine well be working very hard.
  • I would be asking the dealer what method of inspection did they use to check for stress cracks in the frame. If they just looked at it, thats probably not good enough. If they used some sort of dye penetrant and can grant you a warranty then maybe. But be careful of the warranty and how it is written.
  • Welcome to the forum.

First of all your Ram 1500 is not a good combo with a toy hauler. The tongue weight is way too much for that truck, see sticker for weight limits on driver side door post to comfirm.

Next my opinion only is that a 8year old toy hauler in which you have no idea how the previous owner treated it, over loading, driving over roughy terrain etc. you're taking a chance. The dealer is just trying to make a sale, once it of their lot it's you're problem unless they willing to give you a written agreement that if the frame has a issue they will repair within a reasonable time or exchange for another TT. If not, then walk no run away.

We'll see what others here have to say but like I said it's just my opinion.
