hitch and pin gap or sizes

quick question. We have a superglide hitch and love it. This is our first 5th wheel (Eagle HT 23,5) and hitch so we don't know any different.
Our neighbours got a used Prowler 5th wheel and seen him drive away with it today for the first time. He stopped on the road, backed up (while hitched up) and the truck moved first, a bang then the 5th wheel started moving too. Then, he went forward and again, the truck moved first, caught the hitch and moved forward. It looks as if there is a gap between the hitch and the pin. and also, an awful screetch when both truck and 5th wheel started to move (temporarily on both forward and backward manoeuvre) Is that normal for a hitch to do this?

  • my better half actually saw that and described it to me, I would have gone out and checked it out myself! too curious to let it go. I will ask him what was going on when I see him again.
So maybe, the slider was not (opened) (not engaged) pulled? what is the term.
  • even a bad hitch will have at most 1/4 inch slop. I agree with broark01, the screeching sounds like a slider - sliding.
  • I have owned 5 fifth wheels. None of them have done this. So to answer your question-- No this is not normal
