The short bed on the Mega is the same 6' 4" bed on all 2500/3500 Dodges trucks. I have a short bed quad cab and have a manual sliding hitch. The hitch has been in two short bed Dodge trucks for over 14 years and no problems.
Some of the new trailers have a rounded/notched front corners which helps turning clearance issues between the cab and the trailers front corners. There are all description of profiles between the 5th wheel trailer brands. One isn't the same as another so check each one out.
Reese has a Sidewinder 5th wheel hitch that eliminates the need for a slider in a short bed with up to 19k capacity.
Also check out the Reese 5th Air Bourne Sidewinder if your looking at a air ride hook up.
One point here; your going to get input from GM and Ford owners with short bed trucks and what works for them. What works for one brand most of the time doesn't work for other brands (truck or trailer).
GM for example has a longer dimension between the back of the cab and the trucks rear axle which eliminates the need for a sliding hitch in many cases. Pay attention to what other short bed Dodge/Ram owners are using.
Great advice. I second.
