I believe if it were me an I was going to carry something like that I would take the twisting force out of the equation by having two cross members. The receiver's capacity would be my bigger concern. I'm assuming that the motorcycle is longer than 6'. Can you bring a receiver straight out from each frame rail and run the cross member across between the two receivers to allow for a 3rd receiver for a trailer?
Initially I was planning on doing things exactly as you describe....that would be very strong. It's not too late to still do things that way. However, I like the idea if having the lift arms a little closer together than the trailer's frame rails. So, I'm thinking I could extend the frame back and down under the rear cap of the fiver and install my 5x5 cross member flush with the rear of the trailer. I will have three receivers cut into this cross member....two 2x4 receivers spaced 4 feet apart and a typical 2 inch receiver in the middle. The other way to do it would be,like you also pointed out, having two cross members. If I felt a little more confident in using the current hitch as the rear most cross member I would choose to go that way. At one point that was my plan. If after building and installing this 5x5 cross member/receiver hitch things aren't rock solid I will add a second cross member a foot ahead of the receiver hitch with supports going back to completly eliminate the effects of the torque.
