Hitch recomendation

I have a Reese Elite (using the puck system) and love it. The Reese Elite has a wrap around jaw that latches the king pin. I think the ones you have heard about dropping were the older clam shell type hitches.

I don't know that the Reese Elite is any better or worse than the B&W (or Pullrite, or Curt, or etc.). Don't know that you can go wrong with any of the newer name brand hitches.

GM doesn't have a puck system yet. I just installed a new B&W Patriot using mounting rails in my new Silverado. Also had a Super Glide in my last truck. Although the Super Glide was a great hitch, this B&W is so simple to use and quiet it's in a different league. I wish they made a 20K version of the Patriot.

I use the B&W 3600 in the truck in my sig. I had the B&W 3300 in my 2012 Ram and had the Reese undermount in that truck. I have the Ram undermount in my 2014. I had issues with the undercount on the Reese. I eventually figured it out on my own and it was simple fix. However, when I called Reese customer service they were useless at helping me. B & w customer service was great even sending me replacement parts without cost. The B&W is American made in Kansas with American steel and the folks are great to work with. The hitch is very easy to hitch and unhitch which is great. Anyway do your own research call both companies and ask your questions.

retispcsi, What problems did you have with the Reese in the old truck? I saw a couple of guys had casting flash inside the pucks that wouldn't allow the B&W cams to turn. Once they ground that out all was well.

I have the Ford/Reese Elite hitch. I don't like it. It is very hard to unhitch. Jaws don't seem to open far enough to release properly. Mine is at the dealer now waiting to be repaired or replaced.
In hindsight I wish I went with the B&W.

One thing about the Reese Elite wrap around latch is that when you get ready to unhook, you need to put the truck in reverse and let it bump back easy against the pin to relieve any pressure against the latch so it can unwrap. Then it is very easy. Had the same issue with my previous Pullrite that also had the wrap around latch. Once you figure that out, there is no problem.

X2 on the B&W Patriot. That is what we have with our '12 Ram 3500 and our Bay Hill 340RK.

I've tried everything. I don't think the jaws open far enough. No problem to get the jaws to open. When I go to pull ahead they either close up again or jam and try to drag my trailer. Sometimes I use a bungee cord to hold the handle over so the jaws don't snap closed when I pull forward. I never had a problem with my previous hitch. Not at all impressed with Reese.
I would agree with retispcsi. I've spoken to both companies and B&W seem much better to deal with.
If I did it again it would be a B&W. That's my opinion but I know others like the Reese.

I love my B&W TO Ball and Companion. Great product and a great company to deal with. I do have a GN trailer and actually use the TO Ball more than the Companion.

If you are going to be doing much traveling would recommend getting a "air hitch". True they are pricey, but they take a lot of stress off both the trailer and the truck.
