Without getting into a discussion of ground loops and code requirements that neutral be bonded to ground ONLY at the main power distribution panel, the solution to this issue is to use a Neutral-to-Ground bonding plug in one of the 120VAC 15/20 amp outlets. These plugs jumper the neutral terminal to the ground terminal at the generator, thus making the generators' 30 amp receptacle look like a 30 amp shore power receptacle to the power protection system.
Whether it's good idea to bond the floating neutral output of an EU2000i is the subject of much debate and
in some cases is not advised when feeding that output to a surge protection device. I happen to have an older (pre LCD) Surge Guard 34730 and it deals with my EU2000i's output just fine whether I bond the output or leave it floating, either way it passes signal. I'm not sure if the newer 34730-001 with the LCD display screen would react the same but I wouldn't be surprised if the new
Surge Guard 34830 which also can detect an open ground would see this as an error and not turn on. Progressive Industries which manufactures their own EMS version of surge guards
warns specifically against bonding a floating neutral output.
