Honda generators

Does anyone have experience with a EG4000 generator? How loud are they? Are they powerful enough to run the entire 5er? I have a chance to get one for below market price, but seldom see people talking about this model.

  • Those are usually called "construction grade" generators because no one cares how loud it is on a construction site. That's what you generally find at the big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot. And, yes, they are a lot cheaper than the much quieter, inverter-type generators from Honda and Yamaha.

  • That's really loud. Generally the USFS uses 71dB as kinda a bench mark for "as loud as allowed" Now they don't actually measure the noise, but if you have one of those loud ones, and anyone complained, the Ranger would have you turn it off and never turn it back on.

The inverter type run around 59db (max). Which is 12 dB quieter, which is almost 20 times less noise energy and between 1/3 and 1/4 quieter.

Trust me, you will not want it running outside your rig.

That's because it's not a campground-friendly generator. Might be ok at home, but not in a CG.
  • 72 db is going to be loud. Also has no eco mode. I have a 3000 with remote and run my 13,500 ac unit and other stuff but if yours is a 15,000 you may want to check into it more. It will hurt to buy it but you will always love a quiet model.
  • It's an "OPEN FRAME" generator. None of them are quiet.

The smaller inverter type's are what most people purchase & if you need 4000 watts, then most will purchase two 2000's and parallel them for that reason.

Me, I boondock, half mile or more is my closest neighbor. I would run any generator I wanted to.

PS: My current genny is an open frame 1500/1200. BUT it is not near as loud as the 4000 would be, and I don't need anything larger, because I don't run my air conditioner. It will run my microwave.
