DF was telling me that today while we were breaking camp she saw another camper putting his water hose away. He was pushing the hose back into a 5 gal bucket with a hole in the lid that was slightly larger than the hose diameter. We assume the other end of the hose was coming out of a hole in the side of the bucket near the bottom. This concept has some attraction for me. It is neat, simple, and I think the hose would stay cleaner. But it seems to me that stuffing the hose back in will result in kinks. Is anyone else using this method? I am thinking it might not be all that great an idea or I would have seen someone doing this by now. We have been camping since 2005 and until this morning, haven't run across it before.

In all the years we've been at RV parks, I've never seen this. We coil our water hose up then connect the two ends, using ratcheting clamps to hold it in place before putting it in a lidded plastic tub.

A hose, like rope, has a natural lay. Try to force it by doing the hand around the elbow method will kink & destroy it in no time. If the hose is soft it will coil inside the bucket.Likewise the shorepower cable, especially 50amp & worse when it is cold, is a pain to coil. We use a laundry hamper for our 50amp cable. Enough comes out of the trailer end from the bottom of the hamper to reach the trailer input. The post end is pulled out as needed with the balance staying in the basket.

I also coil and connect ends. Clean and takes up little space.

I think you could coil the hose properly as you stuffed it into the bucket. The main issue I see is that it would be a big waste of space for most of us. You could probably get 200' of hose in a 5 gal bucket, which is a lot more than most people carry. If you just have 50 or 100', that's a lot of wasted space.I just coil them like most others do, and screw the ends together. Never needed more than 2 x 25 footers.

Doubt the bucket had an other hole near bottom....bucket just used to stow hose.Kinda like a garden hose reel without a turn handle......just start feeding hose into bucket via hole in top cover and it will follow the side of bucket coiling up as you push it in.I coil ours up like a lasso, connect ends and then stow

We coil the hose and secure it with bungees. To get the correct size of coil for the storage space; I mark a black line on the end of hose and the first coil so I end up the the correct size coil each time. The electric cable is just doubled up till it fits; it is usually kind of stiff.

Ditto the above - actually a 25 & 10 footer.
Quality hose from the RV filter store.
Since it doesn't kink - guess it could go in a bucket.

(Yeah there's a Wally 25' white hose stashed in case I ever need it, but in ten years with the 5th = *never*).

Same applies to 20+ years of TTs, MHs, and slide-in camper.
IMO A bucket = round peg in a square (compt) hole.

But.... whatever rings the chimes of the user is xln't.

BTW - The 50amp "anaconda" power cord - is quality cord on a 12V powered reel. Pull out as much as needed - push button to reel it back in...:C

While 5 Gal buckets are the most common, you can find 3.5 gal and 6 gal if you check with places that sell food storage supplies. The 6 gal is perfect for 50lb bags of wheat, and 3.5 a good match for 25 lb rice and legumes.

I have three hoses, 6', 10' and 15'.

Most of the time the 6' is enough. I use the shortest hose to do the job. I connect them as needed. Only one time in the past your did I need all three connected.

I use quick connects on all water hoses and connections.

I store all my fresh water hoses in an old milk crate. Same with my 50A power cord.

I carry a 50' hose under the bed for the once in a decade need for 81' of water hose.

Inspired by my MorRyde 50 AMP cord reel that came with my RV, I added two hose reels to organize my black tank flush and fresh water hoses.

Well after DutchmenSports test, I guess I won't bother testing it myself when I get home.
I was thinking it would tend to kink the hose. What I liked most about the concept was that it should help keep the hose cleaner.
Guess I'll stick to wrapping it up and putting it in a plastic tub.

If you have those white RV'ers hoses, those things really can take a kink. Mine came with the RV when I got it and they still lasted 10 years, and I'm a full timer. I only replaced them because the brass fittings where bunged up.

One of my two hoses might have stayed in the compartment with multiple kinks until I needed it only once or twice a year, but never developed a leak.

I would only wonder how good that idea would be if you did much cold weather camping. It's hard enough to make 3 foot diameter hose coils when the hose is cold and stiff in the morning when you're getting ready to leave. Let alone coil it up into a 5 gallon bucket.
