Hot water smell

Replace the anode.It happen to me.

The smell could also be from the anode; replace the anode.

The water in the tank has bacteria growing in it, having been sealed up for so long, it went anaerobic, and that smell is what happens. The solution is to flush out the water system with water containing a little bleach, let it sit for a few hours, then flush thoroughly until the chlorine smell is gone. I believe the recipe is a cup of bleach to 10 gallons of water. Put it in the fresh water holding tank, pump throughout the system and let 'er sit.
