I know, cart before the horse, but we need a place to live FT for the next four yrs, new duty station.
For a 16,000 pound fifth wheel you need a real work horse from the standpoint of both towing and payload. I would look at a minumum of a one ton dually. An MDT would not be too much truck, either. The Cummins is an excellent engine and mated with the Aisan transmission will get the job done. Look at 3.73 or 4.10 axles. You are towing a lot of weight so thinking you will get great mileage and good towing is somewhat of a misnomer.
