How long does it take to shop for a high end 5th wheel

I watched a video of someone showing off their Continental Coach 5th wheel. This person spent an entire year working with the folks at Grand Forks before their RV was finally completed. I'm thinking man if it takes a year to have it built and another year ... or maybe two before you know whether you even want a Continental Coach a guy might want to start shopping for a new 5ver as soon as he finishes writing the check for the current one. I'm thinking 3 years from now I should buy something different....probably something new that will last a good long time. Probably something of high quality. Probably something expensive. Probably if I start looking now it won't take long before I will no longer be happy with what I have. Probably I shouldn't look.

Well you can buy a Forest River or Keystone and have it in the shop for a year making repairs.:W

As long as it takes for the DW to say "I want this one"! :B
  • I don't suppose there is a magic amount of time to research your next RV purchase. My wife and I spent 2 years searching for our first TT and enjoyed it for 12 years. We then spent 4 years researching FW to see different floor plans, weights, tow vehicle requirements, etc. We enjoyed going to RV shows and dealerships to crawl all over the different brands and playing with all the gadgets. The journey of finding your next RV is half the fun! You will soon narrow it down to the floor plans you like and the must haves and the nice to have gadgets. Then you narrow it down to a few manufactures. They all have their pros and cons. In the end you will make the best decision you can from all the research you have done and the budget you can afford. Taking the time to do the research will lessen the second guessing if you made the right choice or not. We bought our first FW after researching 4 years and have never regretting one minute of the journey or the choice we made.
  • I honestly don't think I will ever buy a new RV again. I have done it twice; the last one was a 2005 Citation 28.5 RKS which was a beautiful and great trailer, but the depreciation in 10 years was ridiculous. Like you, I bought my current rig used for about 1/3 of what the original MSRP was and it's nice knowing I could sell it for very close to what I bought it for 3 years ago. My next rig will be another high end unit, but 1-2 years old and lightly used, likely close to our retirement. Likely a Mobile Suites or something similar. And retirement is quite a long way down the road yet so unless something drastic happens we will be keeping our current rig for quite a long time.

    JMHO.
  • It’s the hunt that excites...excited...the video maker, not RVng. 2oldman excluded, of course.
  • It took me 18 months, and I've had it now for 15 years and have had almost zero regrets.
