Probably more to do if you have a long or short pin box that people have or have not this problem.
I already have the MorRyde extended pinbox. Short pinbox would be impossible
I don't think an extended pinbox will solve this issue. All that will do is make the rear end of the pinbox hit your tailgate when closed.
You only have two options really. The Vee tailgate, or just live with jockeying in and out of your truck during the hitching process. Been there done that.
1. Open tailgate.
2. Back in until the pinbox is fully ahead of the rear of the bed.
3. Get out and close the tailgate.
4. Get back in and backup until the pin is hitched.
5. Get pissed off and go order a Vee tailgate.
A 3rd option is to just leave your tailgate at home. Some folks do that, and maybe use a piece of 2 x 12 lumber across the very rear to keep stuff from sliding out.
I have a Moryde 1716 extended pin box with a B&W Patriot and a LB truck. I have about 1' between the dropped tailgate and the front of the 5th wheel. I can very easily walk between the dropped tailgate and 5er when hitching.
I also have about 6-8" from the end f the pin box to the inside of the tailgate when closed.
It really boils down to how the 5er is designed.
