How many here have tailgate clearance issues

Sorry for the hijack of the thread, but maybe someone considering the setup would like to see more detail.
These pins have to be finagled through the louvers and retaining clips installed. That's the worst part of it. I think they could be left out as long as the Retrax cover was closed. The insert cannot go anywhere when the cover closes over it. I've never tried that, but then I've only used the thing a handful of times.
