How to measure length of fifth wheel unit

From the front of my hitch, which is even with the front outside wall, to the very back of my bumper, it measures 36'. Dealer called it a 34'.
What is the "right way" to measure length ??

  • Only true means is to use a tape and measure it. The manufacturers model means zip.

  • Ours model is 33.5 but thats the interior the exterior 35 from the pin to the back cap the ladder is another 10inchs.
  • To me the right way is to measure actual length. Mine measures 34' despite literature saying under 32'. I thought it would fit with plenty of room in my barn but in reality I had 8" to spare and that's after I removed my spare tire. To me any other way of measuring is pointless.

  • If you want to know how much room for a storage building, then you need the length from the forwardmost point to the rearwardmost point.

Montana states that their specified length is from the center of the king pin to the back of the bumper. But you have to add inches for anything forward of the king pin and the ladder beyond the bumper to get the actual overall length. And even their specified length is much longer than implied by the model number.
