Don't know if you can access your metal gen box, mine I could by taking the plywood cover underneath the bed off. I bought 1" foam board and used construction adhesive and tightly fit and glued it on the outside of the box on all sides. The compartment door is screened, and the bottom of the cabinet is open also, so air flow was not impeded. I also noticed the stick bed framing contacted the box, and I raised it up enough to eliminate that contact. I got better than a 50% reduction in noise and vibration. Cost 10 bucks. This was an Onan 4000 micro quiet in a Jayco T24Z.
I can get to 2 sides and will need to remove the plywood under the bed also to get to the top of the metal box. I will crawl into the storage and see if I can see between the bed frame and metal box to see if anything is contacting.
