I smell brake

So....... I converted to disc brakes on my fifth wheel and so far I am not thrilled.... I can't seam to get them right,,,,

So I went to medium and the same thing... Went to High and developed some smoke.. So I am at medium and 7... No smoke... Can't really feel them slowing me other than a gradual slow from 25... But still have that giant smell of pads..?????? It's a brake rite actuator .... 13" kodiaks... Do I just set it to slow me down and let the pads seat ???

I put about 3 miles on it today and when backed in my driveway I took my digital thermometer and checked the rotors... Truck fronts- 195... Truck rear- 180... Trailer front- 260 ...rear- 265
  • Pads are not off rotor far enough. The brake fluid is not letting them retract. That means you have a mechanical problem at the master cylinder that is holding the fluid from retreating to the reservoir. The system you have is probably electric and it pushed a rod to make the brake fluid go to the calipers. That rod is not moving back to draw the fluid back to the reservoir. It may be the adjustment is off. Re read directions for install, as most have a return via a spring, that backs the rod to resting position. Contaminated brake fluid can cause brake fluid to not contract to the reservoir. Depending on the system, different fluids are used, make sure you have the right fluid. Remember it is toxic so wear gloves and don't get it on your skin and dispose of old fluid as a toxic item. Ford uses transmission fluid for brakes, but other systems do not. Check with your vehicle and other systems for proper fluid and bleeding procedures.
  • Mat need a different brake controller like a P-3 that has a setting for electric over hydraulic brakes which is what you now have. :)

The brake rite actuator is a sealed unit... No way to verify the spring ... I will email them tomorrow

I am sure he has the electric/hydraulic setting on his 2014 350. Possibly he has not selected that setting.

I do have it. , and I did select it...... Starting to wonder about the actuator?? I bled the system yesterday and almost replaced all the fluid ( refilling the reservoir after each wheel)... When the wheels are up , and the pedal is pressed , I hear the actuator and cannot spin the rotor by hand....
  • Can you manually slide the bar to fully engage the brakes and do they lock up?

I can manually slide the bar ... I can lock them up... But before I do....I get a lot of brake smoke and smell...it doesn't seam right... I placed an email yo Titan but it may be a bit as they are in Australia ???
  • Well .... Kodiak is saying their portion is operating properly... Brakerite is telling me their portion is operating properly.. Ford is telling me their portion is operating properly...SO my installer (who is 2 hrs away) told me that he is coming to my house Thursday with spare parts..( in cab controller, actuator, module ,lines ect...) and he will trouble shoot everything and get me resolved once and for all.. I will keep you all updates..
