I'm a firm believer in spending time in the potential new camper, even if it drives dealers nuts. When we purchased our Outback last September, I spent an entire afternoon in it. I watched videos, relaxed, stretched out on the bed, sat on the "loo". I actually put a flower vase that was in the camper for staging in each cabinet, each shelf, even laid down on the floor. I then had the dealer put all the slides in and I did the same thing all over again. I know I drove that guy nuts, but when the end of the day came, I was 100% certain this camper would fit the need.
Definitely have them pull the slides in and see how functional the camper is. You may be in a situation where you absolutely cannot put the slides out, and you still want everything to be 100% functional!
I made certain we were, and after we brought it home, we did several drive-way camps with the slides in, just to learn the limitations. While at home, we also cooked full meals, ate inside, slept, watch television, relaxed, did a work from home (since we are IT people), even put the pets inside and turned them loose. We're prepared, and we can comfortably use the camper with the slides in if we ever needed to.
