I want a generator

Here's how I handle the generator situation.

If I know I'm going to need a lot of power I carry along in my 4X6 trailer pulled behind my 5er




my 6500W Honda.

If power is only going to be for me I carry a pair of Honda 2000's
with parallel cable in the bed of my pickup.

Nope not one bit. The handy is Honda's lighter more portable 3000i and a direct apples to apples with the Champ 3100i.

...not wrong...the Honda I referenced, which is significantly more popular than the Handi, is only 58db at full song...I did read the specs...49db to 58db according to the Wise Sales website...

I used the Honda 3000IS as an example because next to the paired 2000 Inverter Hondas, the 3000IS is a runaway leader in the marketplace...but I will agree that it is a bit heavier and that is why I bought 2 Honda 2000's and built an extended run setup for them...

But, I will say that on my next deployment this spring, I may take a long look at that Champion Inverter...but i will want to hear it run...it is light enough to throw around...and a quieter than that construction Champion...

Hmmmm, my Yamaha EF4500iSE is 58-60 dBa under full load. It doesn't change RPM, constant 2600. Listening to it you can't tell when the AC kicks in. A bit pricey and LARGE but I love it. A/C, Microwave, coffee pot, same time no problem.

A good friend has 2 Honda 2000's for his TT and with the a/c and other stuff on it puts them under a good load. They are not as quite as the diehard Honda crowd on here would want you to believe. Granted with no or light load they are quite but put them under full load they sound to me as loud as the Champion 3500.

Honda 3000i handy 65db while powering an A/C for $2300!

Champ 3500/4000 68db while powering an A/C for $350. Save the 2 grand!

Put the Supergen tent over the Champ for $100 and your right at that 65db while powering an A/C for $450.

For what your talking this is all you need.

If you absolutely want inverter technology still save your self $1300 and look seriously at the Champ 3100i for $950 which stacks right up against the Handy.

A Champion 4k generator that has the RV plug will make you the pariah of ANY campground. You won't even like it yourself. I don't care what the numbers say, THEY ARE LOUD. And it's an irritating loud, kinda like a jack hammer...

Absolutely disagree. It's the quietest 30 amp construction type generator out there and no matter as OP stated not for campground.

Your comparison of the two gen sets, Honda Handy and the Champion Inverter is a bit disingenuous...the Honda you compared is not the popular Honda 3000IS...the price of the IS at the website you referenced is only $1999. Yes it is more money than the Champion but you get a lot more...first the Honda is electric start...second, it is only 58db not 65db...

One must keep in mind that db measurements are not progressive; they are exponential...while 58db to 65db is a 20% or so numerical increase, in reality the increase is 100% louder...yes, double in sound...don't believe me...attached is a chart showing the information...

How loud is it?

obviously, the Champion Inverter is a louder...the construction generator is twice as loud...

I concede that the Champion Inverter is a lot less money...but only time will tell if it has the long legs of proven durability that the Honda, and the Yamaha, inverter generators have achieved...it is not about money flying away but one of "value"...a perception that only the person buying the generator can evaluate...

i am no expert by any means, but we bought a champion 4k generator at tractor supply also and are pleased with it. it's mounted on the back of fiver and when we are in bed we don't hear it run. we only use it in rest areas tho. it would be noisy if campers were close to the back of our camper. we stay in full hookup campgrounds so far. if i depended on one tho i would probably get Honda. just don't see putting that much money out for what we use one for.

We also have the Champion 4k from Tractor Supply. Very impressed with noise level and power it generates. Runs 15,000 ac and 39'fifth wheel nicely.
