Improve 5th wheel capacity

Here is one for you.

Our current rig has 2 @ 7,000# Dexter axles. If we go to 8,000# axles, will that legally improve our 5th wheel weight capacity?

We are in the throws of the great 5th wheel vs class A debate and are researching what options we have with our current rig.

Thanks all!

If you want to carry more then maybe it helps and maybe it doesn't, that's a complex questions specific to the trailer, but legally?? What jurisdiction would measure you or assign legality to a 5th wheel weight?
  • If you upgraded axles and tires you would move the weakness to somewhere else. Likely the frame. It might be capable. Depends on how it's loaded. As far as legality goes I don't think it would change anything.
