If you don't mind the smaller interiors then a separate garage will work, if you want larger space then go the other way. When I'm not traveling I want as much interior space as possible, and a separate garage won't do for me. When I don't have the bikes inside I want to reclaim my garage space.
A B&W hitch is what I have and am very, very happy with it.
