Is it important to get dual pane windows?
We plan to live in our ours for 6 months stretches....in South GA and in Southern CA. Would we need the dual pane?

Dual panes are not thermopanes but still have some benefits. Depending on the manufacturer they may be thermos. Arctic Fox and Bigfoot use thermopanes as far as I know. A bunch of others not. Either way they are worth it in my opinion.
