Lot's of good advice! Someone asked if we had hooked up the fifth wheel yet, yes we have, we've taken in camping twice (last fall) the furthest was a three-hour drive, the terrain wasn't hilly. I'm wondering if our 250 can pull any fifth wheel safely at this point, it's one thing we need to look into unless we opt for the bigger truck.
So three hour drive you should have a good idea of how it drives and tows!
How were the experiences last Fall? Did you have a great deal of squat? Was it a hand full to drive? Was the towing and driving experance pleasurable?
Did you take the opportunity to weigh the rig.
If the experance was good, I would scale to see where you stand on tire and wheel weights and ratings and then make YOUR decision as to tow over GVWR. Please make sure your tires are up to the job and have enough capacity!
Your diesel will do fine in the hills.
Based on your first post you are asking because others have told you you don't have enough truck. If you want to be within all the numbers, then no you don't, if only worried about axle and tire you likely are within those, only way to know for sure is get it weighed!
