Jayco HT adding JT Armstrong stablizers

Has anyone added these? I was noticing that the spare tire seems to be in the way. Did anyone remove the spare tire & where do you store it? Thanks

I have posted this on Jayco Owners forum but no response.
  • JAYCO in my signature has a rear electric stabilizer unit in the way of installing the JT's. After calling the tech line, they sent some extenders for the pad ends of stabilizer, which did not give enough additional clearance. I finally got them installed by creating a "C" channel brace to the center of the frame. The front JT's were no problem.

Side note: a few months later, I was in a hurry to get through an intersection while following someone to their house. I could see the dip was substantial, but went ahead against my better judgement. Bad move! The entire rear stabilizer unit is now a twisted up piece of scrap. Everything bent about it except the screw thread bar and the JT Strongarms! The twisting bent a couple bolts, but the arms are good. Take away thought, trust your better judgement!
  • You raised a good question I was thinking of installing them myself and didn't even think about the spare. I see your post on jayco I hope someone will have a way to slide it back. I need to wait till weather lets up to give it a good look
  • My HT has the spare mounted on the bumper in back. I don't think it would interfere with the Armstrongs. Wonder if they didn't put yours there due to the attachment of the bumper to the trailer?
  • Our last 5er had the spare mounted up front between the gear legs and would have required re-location to mount the center bracket where the 2 cross members meet and bolt to the frame. Not an impossible task, just need to decide if the spare is going on the bumper, back of truck, in a storage hatch or a new mount welded/bolted on.

  • Have a Montana rather than a Jayco. But my spare is mounted behind the axles and did not interfere with the JT installation. And it would not have interfered if it had been mounted under the front of the trailer. Jayco HT may be different.
