This thread is responsible for several things. First, I had to wipe my glasses of tears of laughter. Second, I had to go register to post my own tale of dropped woe.
DW and I are preparing to reenter the RV world as full timers, soon as the house sells. Health issues have made us realize there are only so many sunrises and sunsets for each of us to see, and we aim to go find as many as we can, for as long as we can :)
This thread reminded me of the "one-time" I did this. Camped my whole life, everything from pup tents to my last rig, a 37' 96 King of the Road that weighed about 10 tons. Pulled it with a beautiful 1 ton crew dually chevy, with a 454 and a manual gear pattern that spanned about 3 feet from rev to 5th.
Long story short, I high hitched it, then watched my truck pop a wheelie and spring the bed. After that expensive lil experiment in newtonian physics, I determined that a simple keychain flashlight made by maglite, powered by a single triple A battery, will indeed light up the jaws of any hitch, in any sort of daylight, nightlight, no light or rainy night.
Never did it again, and even though it's been 15 years since my wife and I sold that rig, I still carry a maglite both on my keychain and in my glovebox.
Look forward to many more posts, about many more great subjects, amongst the greatest people to be found.........campers.
