Heading out to Trona area on the 18th
Sounds nice.
We finally found the wild donkeys (mules?) out there. (I'm a city boy and don't know the difference.) I've been seeing their poop on the trails behind the Pinnacles for years, especially on the trail that loops around Searles Dry Lake that takes you into town (the "legal-ish" way to get to Trails Drive-In). I finally saw three of them on the trail behind the Pinnacles, and then we saw a huge herd behind the dry lake on the east side.
The critters can't read, or they don't care about the signs that say "Stay on trails. Live ordinance."
There are a lot of fun areas to explore around there. We've been picking through the trails the overlook the Pinnacles on the south side of the train tracks and towards Fish Rocks. There's one great little canyon that lets out at Trona Rd. across from Fish Rocks about a half mile towards Ridgecrest. I forget the name of the canyon now, but it's narrow and pretty. At one point it chokes down to the width of a SxS. There are a lot of caves along the way too.
