I am confused! Warranty of component parts is normally covered by the company that makes and supplies that component. Dig through your warranty info and contact the manufacturer of the water heater. Something sounds screwy! The water heaters have a secondary protection device in the AC circuit that goes out at 185 degrees to prevent what you had happen. Make the call or have CW make the call.
This is what the Atwood assembly looks like. They all have a similar thermostat setup. One is the normal stat and one the over heat protection device.
