Laws may be different in your state but here you can NOT have a lawyer or anyone else represent you in small claims court, you must appear in person.

Similar thing happened to a friend with a claim denial from his health insurance. he filed small claims for the amount and the insurance company paid him. They didn't want to pay for an attorney to spend a whole day in court waiting his turn.
