The only thing that may be of a concern with a K&N oiled type air filter is over oiling it may cause a MAF sensor issue on a gas motor because the oil vaporizes in the intake stream and fouls the MAF sensor. Other than that, never had an issue with any filter.
I think the negative comments about K&N are internet folklore perpetuated by stupidity.
