Kudos to Superglide Pullrite
Last week while on our way to the Suwanee River area we encountered an unussual situation. Shortly after leaving the TT preserve at Clermont, while coming to a stop, the fifthwheeler gave a violent jerk. It did the same thing on the next two stops with the last one being head snapping violent.
We immediately pulled to the side and checked the hitch. My wife nearly feinted when she saw what had happened. The two front pins that hold the railing had broken off and the two rear pins were bearly holding the hitch to the frame. In addition, the top plate that houses the kingpin jaws was severely damaged with one of the two bolts that secures it broken off.
I slightly backed off and the hitch fell into place. I took the top two pins off and lifted the fithwheeler off the railing. I then went to the nearest CW in Ocala with my wife staying with the camper by the side of the road. They could not help me. They said they did not have a pin replacement for my hitch. The service technician stated they did not stock the Superglide hitch.
In order to make it to our destination, We had to get a little creative. I kiddy-corner the pins and completed the trip.
We called Superglide when we got back home. Spoke to a young fellow, Nick. He requested pictures. After receiving the pictures he called me. Today I received replacement for all the pins and the top plate. No running around, great, great service.
Speculation, We have in excess of 20,000 miles on that hitch without any issues. Could someone have moved the pins and placed them in the other slot? Possible. Regardless, be extra safe out there and make it a routine check to check the pin placement prior to each and every time you hitch.
