KZ camper owners

We currently have a 2005 Americamp 300fbt toyhauler and are looking for something a little bigger with slides. We have been looking at the Fuzion and Raptor. However we have come across a 2008 KZ New Vision with a layout that we really like. it is the cleanest used unit that I have seen. Genset has 6 hrs. interior/exterior looks brand new.

We are looking for any info good or bad about them. Is there anything to be on the lookout for with this unit? also kinda wondering what we should be able to get the camper for as well. They have it listed @$44,000
  • My KZ has been a really good unit. One small leak at a window that the dealer fixed under warranty. Quality control appears good and the manufacturer has a great reputation.

One thing to look at is the 2008 Onan generator. Google it, but some '08 units had a bad batch of fuel pumps. My TH is a 2011, but the generator was built in 2008 and installed new in my TH. I couldn't get my generator to start and got hold of the Onan service center. When I gave them my serial # they said it must have been a used unit and wouldn't be under warranty. I got the dealer to state is was a new unit and I got the pump replaced under warranty. The Onan warranty facility wanted me to leave my trailer, but I just picked up the fuel pump and installed it myself. No probs since then.

Just test the generator well to make sure it works good, check to see if yours was one built during the bad fuel pump batch, and if it was have the dealer change it if it hasn't all ready been done.

    Price does seem high.
  • We've had our '09 KZ Inferno 3905 for over 3 years and overall it's been great. It's very similar to the pic in "turner66" sig but one foot shorter with two less slideouts. My wife liked his model best but, our 3905 had the highest cargo weight capacity which we fill with a sandrail and quads with the 17+ foot to the first cabinet cargo area. Structurally it's been great and the fit and finish has been pretty solid. I did opt to do an axle flip to bring it level with my 4x4 tow vehicle and it was the best money I've spent on the hauler. I had to fix stupid things like the window valances separating because they were joined with air nails and other very minor things that didn't require warranty work. The absolute worst part of my Inferno are the completely lame cargo floor rings. They are so substandard compared to the rest of the build it blows my mind. I also upgraded from the factory China bombs to Michelin Ribs - $$$$ but worth the peace of mind.

    Good luck with your decision.
  • I had a Keystone TH and would never buy another Keystone product. KZ was on our short list and I would consider an KZ in a heartbeat. We purchased a Titanium TH and love it. When it comes time to purchase again we will have a hard look at KZ.
  • Regarding price, You didn't mention the model or options so can't give you a good answer. Run it through the NADA guide on line. This will at least give you a benchmark, and then you can search for similar and see what they're selling for. It does sound a bit high to me though.

Other than obvious things in general to look out for with any RV, I'd like to give you some pointers about what to look out for specifically with the KZ brand, but I can't think of anything where I've had any trouble with our Inferno. We're very happy with it so far.

Like you, we were also looking at Fuzions and Raptors and the sheer lack of complaints on the KZ is what drove us in that direction. I've called the factory a few times with questions (not problems). Every time, I talked to a real person who was nice, knowledgeable, and who had alot of time/experience working for KZ. What a breath of fresh air that is...

I have heard that many toyhaulers (KZ included) have had problems with the lift springs on the ramp door actually breaking the structure of the door just above the hinge. You might check that out...

I'm struggling to think of anything else, but if I do I'll come back and let you know.
  • I agree on the gen, should have been exercised. Also the price seems at least $10,000 too high, I don't know this specific model but 40' garage model TH of that era are running in the $20,000 to $35,000 range. Friend has a well appointed 07' KZ Sportster, but only 35' with a 10' garage that he paid $30,000 for but that was 3 years ago.
  • The KZ's are good trailers. I have a couple of friends that have older ones and they have no thoughts of trading them in. I would be careful about the generator with only 6 hrs since 08. The generator should be run under load for about 1/2 hour every month or so. That would add up to way more than 6 hours, but the fuel in the tank might also be stale by now.
  • I have a 2008 Montego Bay , the few items that my dealer stumbled on KZ picked up the ball and ran with it!!! They will be first on my look at first, the next time I buy a hey trailer....Joe
  • I have a 2013 very few minor issues that I have resolved myself...factory has been a pleasure to work with thus far....

  • No personal experience, but for what it's worth, I have not read a single bad thing about the KZ brand.
