Landing gear cross braces

As I continue to do research in advance of picking up our new 5ver, I have seen info about cross braces helping keep the 5ver stable. We will sleep in it a couple of times before I do anything but I got to thinking why wouldn't ratchet straps do the same thing?

Am I missing something?

+1. We put on our big boy and big girl pants and 'go with the flow' so to speak. Lol!
  • We have and love the JT Strongarm stabilizers front and rear. :)
  • In my 13 years of RVing, I've tried many different solutions to the jiggles. The absolute best combination that has worked for me is the tripod under the pin box, the rear crank down stabilizers AND two bottle jacks that go from the ground to the frame. The load has to come off of the suspension.

The tripod will stabilize the front jacks, the rear stabilizer jacks will take care of the overhang behind the axels and the bottle jacks will ground the frame hence eliminating the suspension.
  • We also use the stabilizers on landing gear and rear scissor jacks along with bal wheel chocks and the rig is very stable,my wife is very happy with this setup which is what matters right?:W.
  • Picked ours up in Omaha mid January. We're going with the kingpin tripod first. We camp with some others that use them and seem to like it.

In saying that, the braces I see, like those above make sense to me, but they are more expensive.
  • You don't want to pull side ways on your legs you just want to hold them still. The braces like JT Strongarm lock them, they don't put any side to side load on the landing gear like a strap would.

The less you extend the legs the more stable they are. We use the JT Strongarm and some x-chocks and are happy with that arrangement.
