length limitations

We have narrowed our search for a pull behind toy hauler to a KZ MXT303. I believe my Ford F-150 Ecoboost Max Tow will be able to pull this one with no problem.

I am concerned though that pulling a 34' long TH with a vehicle with a 145" wheelbase might be a problem. Should I be concerned?

Also, does adding a 900 lb MC to the rear of a TH add or subtract to it's stability on the road?

  • It's a good looking trailer (http://www.kz-rv.com/mxt/MXT303.html), but it's too much trailer for an F-150.

The GVWR doesn't sound right to me. 8,800# for a 34' trailer with a slide just sounds too light.

It lists the rear bed as an option, so that isn't included in the GVWR. I don't know what other options aren't listed, generator?

Towing with an F-150 won't be any fun at all. I'd try to find someone who owns one of these and see what their experience has been.
  • A 34 foot trailer is way to much for a 1/2 ton short wheelbase truck regardless of weight. In a big gust of wind you would be lucky to get stopped before the state line.

You need to be looking in the 22-24 foot range for a conventional bumper pull toy hauler- max! Even then, my guess is that your seat of the pants experience will have you getting a 3/4 ton diesel truck in no time.

No question the 1/2 ton truck are really capable and far more truck than they were even 3-4 years ago. But the laws of physics can only be bent so far. :)

    Go with your initial instinct.
  • You are right to think about how the short wheelbase of you truck will handle a long trailer like that. I don't believe listed the weight of that trailer is accurate. I would see if the options, like a/c, generator....are included, just seems way to light for a 34' toyhauler.

I had a 26' and it was in the 11,000 lbs range loaded (didn't know that when I bought it, just went of the mfg specs), oh yeah and its advertised weight was 5500 lbs, oh yeah I tried towing it with a 1/2 ton truck with a 9000 lbs towing capacity. I then moved to a bigger truck
  • What is the trailers GVWR? I too suspect you will be way overloaded before you hit length restrictions. But to answer your ? On length check with your local DMV office. They should be able to tell you the maximum length allowances for both primary and secondary roads in your state. BTW this is a state by state thing not a federal line.
  • I am in no way the weight police but that is way too much trailer for that truck- period.
