Linoleum under carpet?

If any of you have replaced your carpet, was there linoleum under the carpet? I am thinking I read somewhere that the manufactures usually put a sheet of linoleum down then just install the carpet over the top. Is this correct? Thinking we might pull up some or all of our carpet. It would be nice if there is linoleum under it. Thanks, John
  • In my rig I found linoleum under most but not all of the carpet .. suspect that my rig have 4 or 5 alternative places to put the kitchen and the factory covered that region. Cheap stuff anyway so you may want to upgrade to Allure or something better - not expensive.
  • Most run of the mill RV"s are built starting with the floor and then they install Linoleum over all the floor. No cuts needed. Then they install the walls and cabinets right over the linoleum and it is probably cheaper to do it that way then trying to fit the floor covering around all the cabinets and walls. To see if yours is like that, just open the cabinet doors and see what is on the floor. If you see linoleum then you know that it was installed first.

In my rig-if there is linoleum under the carpet I'm sure it's full of nails and/or nail holes.
  • YES......

Linoleum in our 5vr was laid down for 'kitchen' area and 'bathroom' area.

It extended past actual areas in both. Then cabinets/drawers etc. were set in place and carpet laid.

Carpet padding was held down with 1000s of stables everywhere. I know cause I pulled each and every one when we replaced living area carpet.

We also replaced linoleum in kitchen area and extended it past kitchen area.
The extra linoleum around sink/counter area in living area that was covered by carpet provided a water barrier to sub-floor.

MFG.s might use a little more linoleum in areas as it is faster install then measure/cut to area......but they don't cover the full length in linoleum and then carpet over it. Just not cost effective.

Now if rv came with full linoleum flooring and then carpet ADDED....
The linoleum under carpet would not be presentable after carpet/padding removed due to installers and their happy stable attack....kinda like 'whack a mole'
    Wham, wham, wham
