Lippert Equa flex

2012 Prime Time Crusader 355BHQ, Lippert 6000 axles, equa flex. I jacked up the trailer to replace bearings and tires, jacked and supported on frame. After I lowered it back, one spring shackle on each side where it attaches to the equa flex flipped so that it's pushing up on the suspension, not hanging by the shackle. Tried jacking the affected tire back up but it didn't help or right itself. Tried jacking the non affected tire up and that didn't help. I haven't tried jacking both tires back up yet.

One inner spring shackle on both sides has flipped, front on one side, rear on the other.

How do I get the spring shackles to hang not push up?

Thanks
  • I had tried to just jack one wheel, then tried the other, then both. It took getting the "good" wheel on some blocks and dragging the "bad" axle to pop it back in place.
  • Glad you figured that one out. Had the same problem a few years ago on the way to Alaska. We had hit a very large dip the day before. Thought nothing of it at the time then noticed the situation you had. Fixed it the same way driving up on blocks & POW back it went.

The story does not end there. It did it again on the way to Dawson City. This time I investigated further & found that the wetbolt at the top had sheared. Lucky us, it had not backed out. Double lucky us, I carry spare wet bolts. The DW & I spent an afternoon in a Dawson City CG doing the repair ourselves. I carry a 12 ton bottle jack, plenty of lumber & the tools for most any job short of welding.

That was 2014. It has been fine ever since. Part of the annual refit is a greasing of all wet bolts & checking every nut & bolt for tightness. Have had factory torqued U bolt nuts come loose too.
  • Glad you got it figured out! I was just going to post that a pic might make for more response. Was also going to mention pulling/pushing one wheel up on a small stack of blocks.

  • Fixed it.
Success. I wasn’t comfortable with the landing gear with one side jacked and it not correct so hooked thew truck up. Tried a brief pull/push with no luck so I made a short ramp of 2x8 and put it in front of tires, back shackle out of whack, and pulled the truck forward. It flipped to correct. Reversed for other side, pushing on the ramp and it too popped back in. Guess the suspension side that was incorrect dragged until the shackle flipped. I’ll keep and eye on that next time. Or do one wheel at a time.
