Got concerns about temps as well. We live in the E. Sierras and get alot of snow and with that comes winter temps in the teens easily. I have a poptop truck camper with a tent so i have some experience here.
just out of curiosity though, Dirtclod, how do you know? experience or opinion?
certainly cant disagree with anyone saying that the tent popout makes a camper colder than a full hardsided camper of any quality. Vinyl is not insulated.
I would say that it is all perspective though.
It is not going to be any colder than a tent.
It is not going to be any colder than a pop-up slide-in truck camper.
In addition- these VRV models all have Atwood LPG wall heaters(or atleast an option for one)- the one in my popup gets my camper so hot in the winter that we usually have to open a window if we forgot to turn it down.
I am more concerned with the natural attributes of all Aluminum construction in the transmission of cold.
The VRV walls are insulated with 1.5" insulation. the roof has 4" insulation. that will help. We plan on covering the floor with thickish padded rugs to help. I will be lining the tent with reflectix on really cold nights if needed. we have used it in our popup and it is easy to install and remove and happens to make a huge difference in temp. control.
time and testing will tell all though :)
for snow load-
I optioned a walk on roof and then some -gives double trussed roof (8" OC) and an extra composite panel spanning the whole roof. Sturdy.
removed the AC option to decrease roof penetrations and roof weight.
optioned an extra popout tent support pole to distribute the weight and help shedding of snow on tent
again- its all an unknown.
I tried to research these VRV's and there is just not any info. out there except people stoked on them- but no true qualitative experiences recorded saying really why they are stoked. No bad experiences out there either- and that alone says something. They have been in business for years and have units all over the country- most in middle/east country. Search online any toyhauler and you will find a ton of complaints, not many stokes.
I will be the testbunny here on rv.net and i will force myself to give an honest opinion with the good and bad.
